The plot of Biomutant is branching, and the player's choices determine where the tale goes next. The "Tree of Life," which is hit by a natural calamity and poisoned by toxic oil from under the earth, is the focus of the film's central narrative. It is also threatened by five animals that begin slowly chewing at the Tree's five roots, threatening to destroy the Tree before it can cure itself. Six tribes, each separated from their initial stronghold, compound the problem. Others perceive a chance to extend their area and assert their dominance while three of them are dedicated to healing the Tree of Life and re-establishing the natural order of things. By using the Karma system, one may have an impact on any tribe.
